Daylight is looking for an experienced engineer to join our software team. We’re looking for someone technically opinionated who wants to take a shaping role in delivering on the promise of healthier devices and building our engineering organization.

Our vision

We believe in creating devices that bring technology and humanity into greater harmony. We are building an organization and product capable of delivering on the dream of computers as “bicycles for the mind” – calm, healthy, distraction-free, and cognition-extending devices. Better for reading, education, knowledge work, play, and going outside, with native AI capabilities that allow for exploration rather than capture.

What we’re working on

We have commercialized a non-emissive screen that is good for your eyes and circadian rhythms and are innovating on this hardware foundation. We are working on our own OS layer on top of an Android base. We are creating an architecture where data surrounds and is owned by the user instead of being sequestered and fragmented in applications. We are working on a suite of knowledge work applications for reading, writing, notetaking, and thinking. We will build these in a way that creates high quality attention, and enables native AI usage.

Where we’re at now

We’re a small team focused on steadily building the foundations of a company with ambitious goals. We had a highly successful first launch. We sell a tablet with a performant, non-emissive screen that’s better for your eyes and circadian rhythms. Early users are very enthusiastic. We have custom applications for reading and notetaking. We are fundraising sustainably and aren’t hitched to a VC-backed growth curve. We have a cozy headquarters in The Mission.

What we’re looking for

We hope to bring on a senior engineer who is excited about driving these new technologies and wants to be a cornerstone of a growing engineering organization. Ideally, they have experience with Android and specifically Kotlin. However, we are also open to considering aligned generalists who are opinionated technologists and want to dive in and learn.
